Tiny Home, Big Butt

So me and my girlfriend, Catherine, have finally moved in together! Out of student digs for her and out of lodging for me. We searched for quite a while for a house that was both within our budget and in a good location. We both work part time and I work in town so we needed somewhere fairly cheap and ideally within walking distance of my job. Eventually we came across a cute little studio flat in Falmouth. It’s furnished, has bills included and is affordable. We initially didn’t get it, but after things fell through with someone else we got the glorious news that the flat was ours if we wanted it! We packed up all of our belongings in one week and moved in.

The only problem is that the flat is very small. It is essentially a converted garage space under an existing house. We had been fantasising about tiny living for quite some time but didn’t think it would happen so soon. Lodging has already taught me some valuable lessons in downsizing however I still had a lot of my possessions stowed away in my friends garage. In the past week I’ve managed to roughly half the stuff I own but after moving in I can see I still own way too much clutter for this life to be comfortable. We are still surrounded by boxes and crap.

This blog series is going to be about our new life in our tiny home. I’m going to talk about downsizing, decluttering and cleansing your life of unneeded clutter. Tiny living is going to be a fun and interesting ride and I thought it would be super fun to share it. I’m also going to talk about other home related things like cooking, cleaning and beauty routines. Now I’m living in my own space once again and buying all my own stuff I really want to get back to eating healthily and using eco friendly products wherever possible. Hopefully documenting all of this will keep me accountable and keep you interested and entertained!

So join me on my journey to a more sustainable, clutter free, tiny home!

(Ps- The title was inspired by something funny Catherine said to me so thank you boo for the input!)

Things I Love Thursday

Welcome to another instalment of positivity! I’ve just finished uni for the term, yay, so I hope to be blogging a bit more often. I’m going to the Cornwall Vegan Festival on Saturday so expect a post about that sometime next week. I also might cobble together a post about the Harry Potter Society’s Yule Ball that happened on Monday if I can get any photos from someone as I somehow took none, oops. Anyway, bring on the Gratitude!

❤ I am so grateful for Sarah. She really helped me out and cheered me up on Saturday when plans changed. My anxiety really doesn’t like it when plans change especially if that change then leaves me alone. So Sarah stepped in and cheered me up and we had a lovely sleepover round hers. Thank you so much hunnie, I know you don’t always understand me but I’m glad you’re always there for me.

❤ Days where your outfit is just on point and you feel amazing because of it. Last Friday the Pagan Society was hosting a presentation at uni and we decided to dress somewhat smart. I opted for something pretty simple by my standards combining a charity shop find pencil skirt with a beautiful turquoise top from Dorothy Perkins… and a shit ton of necklaces of course! I also wore my new ankle boots from Newlook which have a wee heel that clip-clops when I walk which always makes me smile and feel grown up.

❤ My friends and family for being super understanding, supportive and open about my choice to become vegan. Saskia came to a vegan festival with me, Taylor messaged me the other day asking for non-meat sources of protein and Oli eats whatever I do and is even thinking about becoming vegan himself! Nana came to a veggie cafe with me the other day and is always tagging me in posts on Facebook linking to vegan recipes and Mum loves my vegan cakes and is getting in lots of vegan treats for Christmas. Even the little things me so much to me and of course to the animals.

❤ This absolutely amazing illustration of me and Oli drawn by Valerie Doty- aka The Tiny Hobo. I love it so much! I looks just like us right down to the way I’m smiling really big and Oli has a wee little grin. Also check out Toby and Bob (the dinosaur and penguin) at the bottom! You can add pets to your commission and sadly me and Oli don’t have any pets yet so I asked if we could add our favourite toys (because we are totally cool adults). I would recommend her to anyone! Her style of art is just adorable, colourful and fun! I will for sure be ordering from her again in the future and can’t wait to find a place to display this beauty.

❤ Spending time with Jenny at the lights switch on in town tonight. It was particularly pretty this year and Jenny vlogged the whole thing so I will share that with you when she uploads it to Youtube. The weather cheered up a bit and the choirs were great. The town was packed with people and it was really nice to have a yummy hot drink and browse around some shops and not one but two Christmas markets.

On a less cheerful note there was also a protest going on in town about the UK’s decision to bomb Syria. The protest was peaceful and had an amazing turn out. Me and Jenny watched it pass and showed our support. War is a horrible thing especially at this time of year and I hope the people of this country can convince our government to rethink their destructive plans. I am heartened to see how many people oppose this latest development which somewhat renews my faith in the country.

Peace and toodles.

Harry Potter Studio Tour London- part 1

I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

As you can probably tell from the title of this post I went to the Warner Bro’s Harry Potter Studio Tour in London! I have wanted to go for so long so when my uni’s Harry Potter Society decided to organise a trip up I jumped on the opportunity. Living all the way down in Cornwall, being pretty broke and not driving means trips like these are a godsend. The whole trip including travel and entrance only cost us £60 each which was amazing! It did mean an early start and a late night as we travelled all the way up and back in one day but it was so worth it. We arrived a little early and had a wander around the overwhelmingly massive shop. I picked up a few little bits which I will probably be sharing with you in part 2 (yes I took so many photos and have so much to say that is warrants 2 posts).

This post is going to talk about and show pictures of the tour in more or less chronological order so if you don’t want things like that spoiled for you then don’t read on. This will also be pretty photo heavy because I took rather a lot!

When you enter the tour you go into a cinema screen where you watch a wee movie where Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint talk about their experience working on the movie. For most of it they are standing in front of the door to the great hall and I was totally unprepared for what happened next. When the movie finished the screen rolled up to reveal the actual door to the great hall!!! I am a super emotional and sentimental person and I started happy-crying. I just thought it was so magical that you start your journey by going through that door just like they did.

professorsThe great hall was awesome, with bits and bobs for each house and the teachers costumes displayed at the front of the hall. It was really weird to look up and just see the studio ceiling instead of the magical, changing ceiling you see in the movies. We obviously had to take a selfie in the Mirror of Erised. I suppose what my hear truly desires is friendship.

IMG_20150321_181225226The huge swinging pendulum clock was petty impressive. I could have stood there for days, calmly mesmerized by its motion. I call this “Selfie with my bestie!”. I love the fat lady so just had to scoop up this chance. interesting fact- Dawn French, who plays the fat lady in Prisoner of Azkaban is going to be sworn in as the Chancellor of Falmouth University on Thursday, pretty rad!

Dumbledores office

Dumbledore’s office was incredible. So many little details that you don’t notice when you watch the movie. I mean all of the portraits are hand painted, imagine how long that must have taken! There are so many shiny, wonderful bits and bobs in cabinets all around, it really was a work of art to behold. There’s even a little window at the back that you can look through and see the little lounge bit right at the back. Even though it’s very background in the movies it’s still there and still looks stunning. Although you didn’t get to enter the office through the amazing statue/door we still got to pose in front of it. Selfie in potions class. The potions class room was really awesome with lots of cauldrons filled with steaming green potions with enchanted spoons magically stirring them.It was so cool to be next to such detailed and pretty large props. Sadly none of us can speak parseltounge so we couldn’t access the Chamber of Secrets.Yes, Umbridge is a mega-bitch but she does have great taste in colours and cat plates! I will take 10 please! We were lucky enough to be some of the first people to experience the new Hogwarts Express exhibition. I was majorly excited to have my picture taken running through the wall at Platform 9 3/4. So fun and so silly.

trainStanding next to the actual Hogwarts express with horns and smoke just felt unreal. It felt like we really were just about to board a train and go onwards to our magical education. The train was pretty cramped when we got inside but it was pretty cool. Each carriage represents a different movie, with little props hinting at each one. My favourite part was right at the end when to my delight a glimpsed the Honeydukes trolley and couldn’t help but say “Anything off the trolley dears?”.

IMG_20150321_193509118_HDRThere was even little fake booths you could sit in which simulated the ride to Hogwarts including escaping chocolate frogs and dementors attacking! It was pretty cool and make a perfect photo opportunity.

I will leave this post here as after this we sat down in the cafe and had a spot of tea. I will be posting part 2 soon so keep your eyes peeled.

Toodles.

Things I Love Thursday

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done one of these so be prepared for an overload of gratitude from the time I missed!

FotorCreated

❤ House Christmas! A bit late I know but we had our house Christmas at the end of Janurary. Sonera cooked us a delicious vegan roast and we exchanged presents and watched funny youtube videos late into the night. I don’t say it enough but I freaking love my house mates. A year ago when we decided to live together we made such a great choice. (Polariod photos taken by the wonderful Sherrie on her new camera.)

❤ My amazeballs boyfriend Oli brought me a Download Festival ticket as a super early birthday present. I am so happy, grateful and excited! I’m actually going to get to see Marilyn Manson! June is going to be awesome.

❤ On point outfit colour coordination.

foodandskulls

❤ Tidying my desk and organising some of my nick-nacks. A girl can never have too many glittery skulls.

❤ The sorbet in Zizzs is amazing. I had a scoop of each strawberry, lemon and pomegranate and they were all divine. 10/10, would recommend.

❤ My current favourite cocktail- a passion fruit daiquiri from Shed in Falmouth.

❤ Just the fact that I own a huge ampersand thingy. How random and fun. Also I just have so many odd little bits and bobs that make me smile every time I look at them.

❤ Beautiful packaging. I ordered one of these necklaces (I went for D) from Bonbi Forest and it came wrapped in this intricate origami wonderfulness. It was just so unexpected and special and it really added to the whole buying experience. I love Bonbi Forest and the necklace is perfect, I’ve been wearing it almost every day since it arrived.

❤ Madame Moxie’s Masquerade, what a night! Everyone came dressed in awesome fashions: Victorian, Steampunk, Burlesque, and partied the night away. There was cabaret acts, burlesque dancing and a pirate playing industrial sea shanties on a Victorian hurdy gurdy! It was a bizarre and unforgettable evening.

cornishbeauty

❤ How beautiful Falmouth is. These were all taken on different days at different times but they are all so beautiful. I love Falmouth so much. Just going on a walk along the seafront on a sunny day makes me feel like I am on holiday. I never want to leave this little haven.

❤ My wee trip to London with Oli to see his Dad and Grandma. You can read more about the trip here.

bodyconfidence

❤ Having some major body confidence. My body is awesome and I love it. It gets me from A to B and lets me have load of fun! I can swim, cycle, dance, run, skip- #thisgirlcan! I’m working on making it stronger and healthier but love it now and always will.

❤ Beth and her friend Caitlin coming down from Exeter to visit. We has some lunch in town before heading of on a seaside adventure. The weather was lovely and we ended the day with massive ice creams from Swanpool beach cafe. It was great to meet Caitlin and I’m going up to Exeter to see them and celebrate Beth’s birthday in a few weeks, woo!

❤ Mini shopping sprees. Today I went into town and got a few bits. I went for Barry M nail polishes in Berry and Strawberry along with eye shadows in Copper and Gold. The unicorn stickers were from a local discount store and the other bits and bobs were all from Barnardos charity shop including the flowery top I used as a backdrop. I had a fab day today hanging out in town with some uni friends.

Hows that for a lot of awesome gratitude! Join me next week for even more.

Introducing Falmouth- Phoenix Cinema

dsc05919

For a long time Falmouth didn’t have a cinema. I have many fond memories of hopping on the train to catch a film in Truro. One day we just stayed in there all day because the weather was foul. It was a bit of a pain though and all those train fares added up. Luckily in April 2009 the old drill hall, which had been empty for years, became our new cinema we were ecstatic. It’s given the beautiful old building a new lease of life which is lovely to see.

The Phoenix Cinema houses 5 screens ranging in size. 3 of these are luxury screens with armchair and sofa seating, more leg room, a waited snack option and is fully licensed if you fancy a pint of the good stuff. Adult tickets cost £7.95 and children and senior citizens tickets cost £5.95 however there are many other deals to choose from. These include Movie Magic cards, which give you cheaper tickets and food for a small annual fee, bargain shows and movie meal deals.

SONY DSC SONY DSC

When I go with Oli we tend to make the experience into a date and go for the movie meal deal. The cafe makes a really nice addition to the cinema, and as a bonus you can use it without even watching a movie. We have been to the cinema twice lately- once to see Guardians of the Galaxy (yeah, we took a while to get around to watching that…) and more recently to see The Book of Life. Both were great movies and were followed by equally great food. For £12.95 you get your cinema ticket and any main meal of your choosing, including the delicious daily specials. To make things extra special, if you book in advance they reserve your seat for you with one of those cute little table signs.

SONY DSCWhen we went to see Guardians of the Galaxy I opted for the Veggie Chilli with nachos. It was so yummy and spicy. The chilli was packed with big chucks of vegetables. It came with a nice coating of cheese and decent dollops of sour cream, guacamole and salsa. When we went to see The Book of Life I opted for something different, I went for the Pasta Al Forno with a creamy, cheesy sauce. Boy was it cheesy! I felt like I had died and gone to cheese heaven. It was so rich and perfect. I would totally recommend either of those dishes. For you meat eaters out there, Oli always opts for the Classic Beef Burger with either chips of wedges and he always enjoys it. The burgers are proper, home made, chunky style; they mean business!

SONY DSC

I love our little local cinema and really need to get myself a Movie Magic card so I can go even more. I really feel it has brought a lot to the town and it’s so nice to not have to travel to catch the latest blockbuster.

Here’s a link to the Phoenix Cinema website if you want any more information.

I hope you enjoyed this little snippet of Falmouth. Watch this space for next weeks post, although even I’m not sure where I’m going to be reviewing yet!

Introducing Falmouth- Swanpool Beach & Cafe

dsc05843

And so it begins! I have decided to start this series with a place very near my house. Swanpool is my favourite place to go when I just need to get away from it all. Swanpool itself is a beautiful lake full of ducks and swans. Right next to the lake is a mini golf course which is always fun. Across the road from that is Swanpool Beach. It’s not massive and is a bit pebbly meaning it tends to be quiet, especially on a grey day like today.

At the top of the beach sits Swanpool Beach Cafe. During the day they serve lots of yummy things to nibble on including delirious ciabattas, filled jacket potatoes and home made cakes. I love having a cheesy garlic ciabatta and a Belgium hot chocolate followed by one of their amazing quirky ice creams. They are so massive and so good! You get two scoops of Cornish ice cream topped with clotted cream and the topping of your choice from the list. I love “Monkey Business” and “Caribbean Kiss”, on nom nom! You can choose to eat your food up on the decking under a huge parasol or out in the open on one of the many benches on the sand.
