Things I Love Thursday

Guess who’s back to the gratitude lists? Oh yes, that would be me. I haven’t been very good a writing these lately and this might actually be the first one of the year. But, I am back and ready to be grateful for the amazing things in my life because I know how much it improves my outlook.

❤ My amazing new “Purrmaid” bedding from George at ASDA. I saw it online and was hoping I could find it in store and I luckily did. It was only £12 for a double set as well which I think is amazing. Its got a cute shell print on the other side which is a nice touch. It also matches my Bei Badgirl merkitty tattoos.

❤ My amazing friends and readers for being so supportive after I posted my post about my mental health struggles. Thank you so much everyone, it really means the world to me that you are all there for me, thinking of me and relating. I hope anyone out there struggling with similar difficulties knows they are not alone and we can fight through this.

❤ The first hints of spring in the air. Spring is my favourite season and it is finally starting to peak through the clouds here in England. We have had a few weeks of flooding and ridiculously strong winds to it’s nice to see some hope in the weather. Flowers are starting to bloom and all the plants are looking leafier- yay!

❤ Veganaise!!! Veganaise it by far the best vegan mayo I have tasted yet. It’s so rich and creamy and thick. I cannot believe there’s no eggs in it. Seriously, even if you’re not vegan give this mayo a taste, you will be amazed. I purchased mine at Ethica in Plymouth. Yay for mayo without the cruelty.

❤ Banana nice cream- basically blended frozen bananas. Somehow when you blend up chunks of frozen banana until smooth it creates this amazing soft serve icecream consistency. It’s so tasty and you can blend in things like peppermint extract, cocoa powder or cinnamon to give it some extra flavour. This was plain banana topped with chopped up date, Jordans strawberry cereal, flax seed, Graze cherries and berries and some Choc Shot. Om nom nom.

❤ Finally treating myself to some Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks. In the photo I am wearing Prom Night but I also got I’m royalty which is an awesome purple that makes me feel like a Disney villain! These lipsticks are amazing, they go on so smoothly, dry quickly and last all day through eating, drinking and talking. And it’s not drying on the lips, what more could you ask for? I got mine from Cocktail Cosmetics for £14, they are so worth the price and arrived really quickly.

❤ My numerology reading with Momoko today. It was an amazing experience, I gained so much insight about my inner self and where I need to be heading in life. It gave me loads to think about and work on, I nearly ran out a pen taking notes! I feel like a whole new world of seeing has been opened up for me. I might write a longer post about this experience when I get my notes together. For now I will just totally recommend having a numerology reading to anyone.

That’s all for now folks, I’m gonna try to keep on top of this to lift my mood and keep on the path to positivity.

Things I Love Thursday

Hello everyone! I am feeling so super positive and amazing today! Don’t you just love it when you have days like that where everything is just so chill and falls into place and you just feel at peace. Anyway, I am going to do today’s gratitude list a little bit differently. I just finished watching Gala Darling on Periscope and she shared 5 specific things that she is grateful for today with us then asked us to comment our 5 things back. She read two of mine out which felt pretty rad. So I’m going to list my 5 things below then it would be a super way to spread some gratitude and positivity if you could all post 5 things you are grateful for in the comment section below. Try to be as specific as possible. Also you should totally check out Gala on Periscope, her chats are always so inspiring and magical. Right, on with the gratitude;

1- My new glittery red nail polish from Barry M. It’s limited edition and sadly I can’t find it online but I managed to get mine in a Superdrug in Camden so they are out there. It’s a beautiful shiny gelly polish with great coverage. It has small, subtle glitter pigments so goes on really smoothly and lasts really well. It makes me feel really sophisticated but fun at the same time. I love it!

2- Once again the new Pagan Society at my uni which I am the secretary for. We had our first event the other night which I sadly couldn’t attend but I hear it went well. We have 76 followers on the Facebook page so not that long until we hit 100! Gala thought this was really cool and progressive which made me smile.

3- Home made humus. Since getting my Nutribullet for my birthday I have been making this a lot. It makes such lovely smooth humus in seconds. I love making my own because it means I can make it super garlicy. It’s also cheaper than buying it and as I almost always have the ingredients in the house it means I can have it whenever I desire.

4- Planning my gluten free, vegan brownies for tomorrows charity vegan potluck I am attending in Truro. I’ve never baked anything gluten free before so I hope it comes out okay! I just wanted to be as inclusive as possibly so when I saw that quite a few people coming are intolerant to gluten I jumped on the opportunity to try something new. I’m quite nervous about going as I don’t really know anyone but it should be fun plus I’m going to get to try so much yummy food!

5- Having freshly dyed pink hair. Although it’s been over a week now it still makes me so happy when I look in the mirror and see a mass of vibrant locks. I’m super lazy so only do my pink dye once every 2-3 months and only bleach my roots every 6 months so when I do both it’s so awesome. I feel renewed and energised. Hot, bright pink is for sure my power colour.

Right, that’s my 5 now get commenting! I want to hear about all the awesome things both big and small that have been going on in your lives this week.

Things I Love Thursday

I’ve got that Thursday feeling!

❤ Finding cute little pieces of graffiti.

❤ Spending hours chatting to Mum about everything under the sun.

❤ Rewatching all of the Harry Potter movies with Oli. Currently we are nearly at the end of Goblet of Fire. I will never not love Harry Potter.

❤ Having a lovely lunch out with Amy and Jasmine on Tuesday. We had some really nice chats.

❤ Chilling at Nana’s for the past few days. I always love having a good natter with her and watching a bit of “Say Yes to the Dress” on Sky and discussing which dresses we like.

❤ My hair getting super long although this photo doesn’t really do it justice. When it straight/wet it comes about an inch below my bra strap. Wooo! I love having long hair.

❤ On a similar note I appear to be successfully growing my nails for like the first time ever. I have been a nibbler for as long as I can remember so I suddenly feel all grown up and glamorous with nice nails.

❤ Handing in my essay at the end of last week, such a load off my shoulders.

❤ Redoing my roots and my pink! I feel like myself again, woo! Pinkhead until the end. I have been dying my hair pink for almost 5 years now and I’m still not bored.

❤ Feeling some major witchy vibes from the season, my fashion and the new Pagan Society I am part of at uni! I am the secretary and I’m super excited about it. We are having our first Moot on Tuesday and I can’t wait.

❤ This super cute little witchy buddy Sarah painted on my face today.

❤ Halloween!!!! It’s my absolute favourite time of year! I love all of the skull themed things in shops and I can’t get enough of awesome pumpkin carvings. We went to the Eden Project today and there was this really cool spooky tent type thing and it was so magical! I will share some of my favourite photos from inside the tent below-

It’s been a pretty fun reading week so far… should probably do some reading now!

Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Polish- Review

When I saw that Barry M had a new range of nail varnishes out I nipped down to Superdrug to buy some straight away. The new range is inspired by professional gel treatments however the magical daylight curing topcoat eliminates the need for a special light. Sounds pretty rad and much cheaper than getting a professional manicure at only £4.99 a bottle.

Currently (until early May) Superdrug has a three for two offer on all makeup including nail polishes to I treated my self to two different colours and the topcoat. Currently there’s only a base range of seven colours however I’m sure they will expand the range if they sell well. I went for “I’ve been Pinkin” and “Make me Teal” and boy to they look beautiful next to each other. I don’t have a photo to share with you right now but I currently have them on alternating nails and they look awesome. Before I move onto my experiences with the polishes I have to mention how lovely and sleek the rose-gold lids look, perfect for displaying on your dressing table.

First up we have “I’ve been Pinkin” which is an almost neon pink, totally up my street. The directions tell you there’s no need for a base coat so I didn’t bother and I haven’t noticed them leaving a stain so that’s a plus point. You are then instructed to apply 2 coats before applying the top coat- which apparently should only be used with these polishes (I have yet to test this). “I’ve been Pinkin” definitely needed two coats but then it was a perfect solid colour. The topcoat then magically perfects the colour, smoothing out everything, leaving it shiny and strong.

“Make me Teal” is a bright blue/teal shade and is my favourite of the two. After one coat this colour is pretty opaque however I did apply another coat just to be sure. Both colours lasted fairly well and maintained their glossy finish. The colours applied really well, partly due to the new flat brushes Barry M have introduced in their polishes. The topcoat was slightly thick but equally easy to apply. One thing I will point out to you all is that you don’t need daylight to cure these, any light will do. I’m not really sure how much they are affected by the light at all but they do look amazing so I’m not complaining!

A Playlist- Fuck the Patriarchy

I love music, I listen to it all the time. Popping to the shop- headphones on. Getting ready for the day- tunes blaring from my laptop. Doing uni work- yep more music. I also love making playlists with different themes depending on my mood. So I decided to make a new semi regular series on the blog where I share these playlists with you! They will either be on Spotify or Youtube depending on track availability. I’m also going to make cute little graphics for each playlist so you can go and create it however you want without having to visit either of those websites.

The first playlist I have decided to share with you wonderful people is the girl-power inspired “Fuck the Patriarchy”. It is a shortened version of a Spotify playlist that I listen to a lot when I am getting ready to go out into the world. It fills me with energy and confidence. It’s full of fabulous hits by kick-arse women but is no means a definitive list and I am constantly adding to it. This shortened list is full of my personal faves. I decided to make it on Youtube so I could include some Taylor Swift.

Fuck The Patriarchy Playlist

Link to the Youtube playlist.

I have also included the full playlist which is in no real order so you might want to listen to it on shuffle to avoid getting loads of songs by the same artist or that don’t go together.

I hope you like this new idea I had! Let me know in the comments if you did. Also I’m always looking for more great music so please comment if you have any new suggestions of songs or artists I might enjoy.

Pink Hair Don’t Care- Colourful Dyed Hair FAQ

People ask me about my hair alot. I mean I do kinda look like a My Little Pony so I can understand why. Maintaining colourful hair can be a tricky thing so I thought it would be a nice idea to write a post dedicated to my personal hair tips and tricks. All of these questions are ones I have been asked in the past but if there’s any you have that I don’t answer then leave them in the comments and I will get back to you.

What is your natural hair colour?

Naturally I have incredibly dark brown hair with the slightest tinge of auburn. I have to bleach my hair first in order to attain the colour I want.

What bleach do you use and how often do you bleach your hair?

I used to get my roots bleached at the hair dressers when I could afford it and would 100% recommend you do this if you can afford it, especially if this is your first experience with bleach. However now I am a student and don’t have a job any more I can’t afford to do this so I use Live Colour XXL Max Blonde 00B (which is for dark hair, 00A is for lighter hair). I find this easy to apply, it’s pretty cheap and it does the job. I also love the conditioner they provide in the box, it leaves my hair feeling soften than it was before I bleached it! I tend to wait until my roots are pretty long before I bleach them because it takes a while to do. I have been known to wait 6 months between bleaches because I don’t mind rocking my roots however every 2 months would avoid that. The key is to not bleach bits that have already been bleached because that damages the hair. Another tip to keep bleached hair in good condition is to avoid heat as much as possible. Keep straightening and blow-drying to a minimum and use good conditioner.

What colour/brand of hair dye do you use?

I’ve only ever used Directions because it is available locally (and on Amazon if you don’t have a local retailer). Through the years I’ve used most of their colours however my favourite pink shade is Cerise. I’ve also mixed Rose Red with Carnation Pink to create a similar shade and have been know to dabble in Flamingo Pink. Cerise starts of really rich, almost purpley then fades to a lovely bright pink before going to a soft candyfloss shade. I like dyes that fade nicely because I actually hate dying my hair so like to leave as long as possibly (usually 2 months) between applications. I also love that you can combine the colours with conditioner to lighten the shade, I’ve experimented with this in the past when mixing colours and it works really well.

How do you maintain the colour?

Honestly my main tip is to not wash your hair that often. I know this isn’t feasible for everybody, I am lucky enough to have the sort of hair that only really needs washing once a week. However this tip can apply to anyone- if you wash your hair daily maybe try every other day or even once ever three days. It all helps. Trying to wash your hair with cooler water also helps maintain colour for longer. The care products you use will also effect the longevity of your colour but I will talk about that more in my next question. One tip I have tried in the past is to mix a tiny bit of the dye in with your conditioner so that every time you wash your hair you are slightly topping up the colour. This is effective but can be a little messy so I don’t bother any more.

What products do you use on your hair?

I use Superdrug’s Revitalising Raspberry & Macadamia Nut Shampoo and Conditioner when washing my hair. My hair really likes it so I’ve been using the same stuff regularly for about a year now. It’s formulated especially for coloured hair so that’s always a good sign. It makes my hair super soft, smells amazing and is only £1.99 a bottle! Amazing products for the price. After washing my hair I always use Alterna Bamboo Colour Care UV Fade-Proof Fluide whilst it is still damp. This adds loads of shine and super smoothness to my hair. It may be a little pricey but trust me- a little goes a long way. I have had the same tube for at least a year. Occasionally I will give my hair a little treat and use Alterna Bamboo Colour Protection Deep Hydration Mask on my hair. I tend to use this if it’s been partially sunny and my hairs feeling a little dry, it perks it up perfectly. I keep meaning to try some on Lush’s hair treatments and masks too, I will let you know how that goes. Dry shampoo is your friend to help perk hair up between washes without fading the colour. I usually use the Batiste Dry Shampoo in Blush because it’s easy to get hold of and smells lovely. I am planning on trying the new Colab range as well after I smelt one my sister had and was blown away.

I hope this has answered some questions for you. Feel free to leave any more questions or any of your own tips in the comments section. Oh, if you hadn’t already guessed all of the hair accessories worn in the selfies are from Crown and Glory.

The Many Faces Of 2014

There’s this thing going around Tumblr right now where people share their six favourite or most significant selfies of the year. I have blogged about how much I love selfies in the past so I’ve loved seeing these posts and wanted to share my favourite selfies of 2014 with you guys. I take quite a lot so it was tricky to narrow it down!

tumblr_n2p60utyKd1qliczno1_500March. I felt super cute in this photo. It was my profile picture on Facebook for months and always made me smile when I looked at it. I am wearing one of my favourite necklaces and rocking some “Drive” Lush lipstick. Mwah!

tumblr_n4184uiFFw1qliczno1_500April. Summer started early in Cornwall this year. On day after a morning at uni I decided to go on a long walk along the sea front and around the point. I felt so relaxed and happy. I love going for long walks along, rocking out to my ipod.

Thank you so much to my secret Santa, everything in my parcel was perfect (I will be sharing in contents in my Things I Love Thursday post).

“14 Year Old Me Would Love This!”- Pink Dip-Dyed Hair

You may know by now that I have pretty colourful hair. It has been pink now for almost 4 years with bits of other colours coming in to the fringe here and there. I even blogged about my hair transformations a while ago. I have quite a lot of experience making hair awesome colours so it came as no surprise when my friend Sarah asked me to dip-dye her hair pink. We took some photos along the way and I thought I would share the process with you. I haven’t done many tutorial posts before so hopefully this will make sense!

10841625_670696993048617_1513844423_nOur starting point was dyed black hair so we needed to lift it quite a bit to get the desired base blonde. We used Jerome Russell B Blonde Lightening Kit Med-Dark (5.99) on the tips of the hair. To achieve an even look we sectioned the hair into two bunches at the front and placed hair bands where we wanted the colour to start. When we we happy with the coverage we took the bunches out and let the hair hang loose at the back so we could even out the middle of the hair. We bleached about 3-4 inches of hair using the brush supplied in the pack. To get a kind of ombre, graduated look you need to brush lighter near the top of the section.

10834045_670693896382260_833780371_n

We left the bleach on for about an hour but this will vary from person to person. The key is to keep checking the hair until you reach the desired shade. We then rinsed of the bleach and conditioned the hair with DGJ Organics Argan Oil Conditioner. Then we kind of got distracted and had some chips from the chippy but this step is optional!

Next it’s time for colour! Directions is my personal favourite colourful hair dye brand. Their dyes are kind to your hair, come in a wide range of colours and are cruelty free. We went for Flamingo Pink which is a super vibrant candy pink colour. I’ve used it before and I loved it. (If you are in Falmouth then Just Like This sells directions, tell Jane I sent you!) Now you just need to slap on that colour. You can use a brush if you want but fingers work perfectly well too, although whatever you do, remember to wear gloves to avoid pink hands for days. The tub recommends leaving the dye in for about 20 minutes I would recommend leaving it in for at least an hour, longer if you have the time. I’ve even heard of people putting a plastic bag over their hair and leaving the dye over night. As the dye isn’t damaging to the hair it can be left on for as long as you want. We decided to wash it off after about an hour because we were getting pretty sleepy by this point.

10850450_670693929715590_1244045990_n

This is the finished result. It’s much pinker and brighter in person. Sarah loves it and I am so proud of the results. This was my first time dip-dying hair but I think it looks awesome! Dip-dying is a great way to add a splash of colour without going the whole way.

I hope this walk through made sense, let me know in the comments. I would also love to see any pictures of your colourful hair.
