Time To Get Moving

tumblr_oe4cihat9a1u2kwfpo1_1280

Well hello there! Nice to see you again. I am now a 22 year old, third year creative writing student and I think it’s about time I got more of my writing online. I’m still going to be writing new content but I thought it would be fun to share more of the work I have created since being at uni. I would love feedback so as always feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

First I’m going to share a song I wrote with you. I wrote this for my lyric writing module last year, but the ideas had been stewing in my mind for a while. I really want to actually write some music for this track and record it at some point (with the help of Oli of course because I have very little musical talent). All of my lyrics are pretty personal and this one is no different but like all art it is very much elaborated and embellished unlike reality. Enjoy!

Failed Love Songs (for failed people)

We both fell fast and we both fell hard
like some Shakespeare shit taken to heart.
I ate Chinese at yours, you slept over at mine
it wasn’t all that romantic, never had the time.
I guess we wrote notes and texted into the night
just for a moment we went together just right.
Didn’t question tomorrow, didn’t cherish today
we just went with the flow, come what may.

It never really got started
We never really took off
Sure we made mix tapes
and maybe danced in the rain
We went to the movies
and had silly nicknames.

But it never really started,
we never really took off
You didn’t bring me home,
didn’t sing from the rooftops.
And this ain’t a love song,
another failed love song.

We went to cult movies, laughed in the dark
we marched through the streets making our mark.
I thought it was love, you thought it was fun
we never spoke about it, just decided to run.
I traced your freckles and played with your hair,
We tumbled to your bed without a care.
We woke up and I knew things were strange,
When you looked at me your eyes had changed.

It never really got started
We never really took off
Sure we made mix tapes
and maybe danced in the rain
We went to the movies
and had silly nicknames.

But it never really started,
we never really took off
You didn’t bring me home,
didn’t sing from the rooftops.
And this ain’t a love song,
another failed love song.

Would it have worked?
Could we have cared?
Would we have lasted?
Let’s not wonder, let’s not worry
maybe it’s better that…

It never really got started
We never really took off
Sure we made mix tapes
and maybe danced in the rain
We went to the movies
and had silly nicknames.

But it never really started,
we never really took off
You didn’t bring me home,
didn’t sing from the rooftops.
And this ain’t a love song,
another failed love song.

So there you go, the first song I am sharing on this blog. I hope you enjoyed it or at least found it kinda interesting. Feel free to leave feedback and let me know if you would like to hear this as a final recorded song one day.

A Day- A series of prose poems (4)

Sorry for the radio silence over the last few weeks. I am back for good now! I now have no job (don’t worry it’s all groovy and good) so can get back to focusing on the blog and other fun, awesome, creative things! I have so many things I want to write about and make videos about and share with you. Trust me, it’s gonna rock!

Anyway, for now I have the fourth and final of my prose poems for you! It’s been a long time coming but I hope you are still interested and still enjoy it. This was actually the first of the four poems I wrote and is probably my favourite. I sat outside, gazing up at the moon and the vast darkness of the night letting the inspiration flow. To me it’s the most organic and flowing of all of the poems. Maybe pop back and refresh yourself on parts 1, 2 and 3 before continuing?

——————————————————————————————————————–

Midnight

Hiding behind the houses the full moon peaks out. Pale moonlight, lulling you to sleep. Pulling you towards dreams of moonbeans and distant glowing galaxies full of mysteries.   A huge orb glowing in the sky, making the vast darkness less threatening. Aura rings of amber, green and blue creating a magical air. Illuminating the peaks of the clouds, creating mountain ranges in the sky. The luminance making everything seem calm, bathed in silvery light. Reflecting crystal particles in the road creating diamond landscapes. Light playing on the surface of the moon revealing calm faces of death. Clouds wandering slowly by, smoke from the mouth of Mother Nature herself. Stars speckling the sky. They twinkle and burn, flashing boldly in the night. So far away yet beaming light down to the longing eyes of a human.  A black cat emerging from the shadows. Its piercing green eyes startling in the quietness of the night. Light reflecting off of its sleek black coat as it disappears back into its own personal darkness. Trees becoming striking silhouettes reaching up, up up, as though trying to touch the light. Their branches like lightning strikes; jet black and jagged, their sharpness amplified by the shadows. Beautiful and wild, clambering and free. The reflections in calm pools creating galaxies in their depths. You could dive in and swim amongst the stars touched by their refreshing light. The more you look the more you see. The sky is filled with rich shades. Deep navys, royal purples even vibrant hints of turquoise. An intricate painting, layer upon layer. The moon’s own masterpiece. You could stare at the moon for hours as it moves across the sky, always seeing something new. It’s uneven surface full of crevices for light to hide. New faces appear less death like than before. More smiling and welcoming. A shooting star streaking leaving a trail of light behind it. Long and straight like a path leading the way. Fireworks shooting through the sky, mimicking the stars brilliance. Colourful light, different, unnatural but still beautiful. Shocking reds accompany the silver stars. Briefly entwined in an other worldly display of light and colour. Humanity interplaying with nature imagining new wonders.

So there it is! All four parts of my first ever series of prose poems laid out for the world to see. I would love to hear your thoughts and what your favourite poem is. Drop a comment and I will be sure to reply.

I know I’ve said this a million times before but keep your eyes open for more content real soon, I promise!

A Day- A series of prose poems (2)

As promised I have the second of my four light inspired prose poems for you today. I hope you enjoy.

——————————————————————————————————————–

Midday

Brightness, the sort that gets in your eyes, your skin, your hair. The type you can feel in your body, in your bones, long after the sun has set. Giving even the darkest colours intense vibrancy. Taking a bland red brick wall and bringing out rich shades of russet and burgundy. Waves of expectation bouncing off burning tarmac. A haze of summery promise, a mirage trick of the light. Streaming through emerald canopies making shadow spirographs around your feet tickling your toes and sneaking in the gaps of your sandals. It whips through your hair along with the breeze, brushing your neck with warmth and comfort. The ocean becoming a vast expanse of crystal particles, sparking and sharp, rich and inviting. The depths seem less scary, full of sunshine and wonder. The water becoming warm and inviting, dive in, you know you want to. Interrupting photographs making glaring rainbows appear in corners. Smiles even brighter, hair golden and luminous, eyes glinting with the hope of day.  Seeping into every corner of the patio, bouncing off glass windows, sneaking into plant pots. Soft candyfloss clouds illuminated from within, pure white floating peacefully across the sky. Light dancing through the blackberry bushes, swaying delicately in the breeze. It leaps over roof tops and through television aerials, over green meadows and beaming off the slick wings of birds. It burns into shiny metal cars, making them boiling to the touch, soaking into the seats waiting for you to come back burning at your thighs. Light living in the flowers, moving through their leaves willing them to grow. It curls around your back hugging you and keeping you warm. It only stays this bright for a few hours a day, it needs to be cherished before it fades away. This precious glowing midday light can be kept in your heart. Remembering that feeling and that moment. When light was everywhere, seeping into your mind, washing over everything and making it glow.

Part three will be coming at you next Monday so keep and eye out for that. My next post will be a bit of a food review and a bit about my current big lifestyle change. Oooh so much mystery! That should be up tomorrow or Wednesday so woop woop! I am full of ideas right now that I’m super excited to share with you!

A Day- A series of prose poems (1)

So a while back for uni we had to write a piece inspired by the book Light by Eva Figes. Although I didn’t particularly enjoy the book I really enjoyed this assignment. I chose to write four prose poems focused on light at different times of the day. I went out at each time and observed the light, made notes then worked some creative magic and boom. I thought I would share one a week with you for the next four weeks. So here is Dawn:

——————————————————————————————————————–

Dawn

Breaking through the window before even the birds. Shining on your duvet wishing for you to wake. It creeps through that gap in your curtains, invading your morning slumberous dreams, nudging you to arise. Light lingering in the glass of your mirror, finding it’s way onto your creaky floorboards and creeping under the doorway into the hall. It illuminates the floating dust making tiny fairies dance through the gentle air. Slowly sneaking over the fields, waking up a new day. Making morning dewdrops glisten like hidden treasure nestled in the long grass. It wakes up the animals and makes the cockerel crow. As it touches your face you can’t help but smile because you know that the light will get you through, luring you outside to play and waste the day away. Light that is pure like a breath of fresh air. It fills your room as you fling open the curtains, welcoming the morning in. It floods the room filling every nook and cranny, spilling over the carpet and stretching from wall to wall. It is with you as you dress, glinting off your jewelry and making your new red dress pop. It streams through the net curtains in your kitchen as you make a cup of coffee, light so bright you have to shield your eyes and pause for a moment. It likes being noticed. It forms intricate shadow patterns on the wall behind you and dances across the photos on the fridge bouncing off their shiny surfaces. It catches the tiny wisps of hair still out of pace as you read the paper, making them look translucent around your face. Light glints of of your marmalade as you spread your toast, reminding you of the sun that grew those oranges. You can tastes its brightness as you take the first bit and enjoy its sweetness. It follows you to the bathroom, pouring through a high up window and reflecting off of the sink full of rippling water. You are washing your face in sunbeams today.

I hope you enjoyed this first poem, let me know what you think in the comments and look out for Midday next Monday.

Harry Potter Studio Tour London- part 1

I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

As you can probably tell from the title of this post I went to the Warner Bro’s Harry Potter Studio Tour in London! I have wanted to go for so long so when my uni’s Harry Potter Society decided to organise a trip up I jumped on the opportunity. Living all the way down in Cornwall, being pretty broke and not driving means trips like these are a godsend. The whole trip including travel and entrance only cost us £60 each which was amazing! It did mean an early start and a late night as we travelled all the way up and back in one day but it was so worth it. We arrived a little early and had a wander around the overwhelmingly massive shop. I picked up a few little bits which I will probably be sharing with you in part 2 (yes I took so many photos and have so much to say that is warrants 2 posts).

This post is going to talk about and show pictures of the tour in more or less chronological order so if you don’t want things like that spoiled for you then don’t read on. This will also be pretty photo heavy because I took rather a lot!

When you enter the tour you go into a cinema screen where you watch a wee movie where Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint talk about their experience working on the movie. For most of it they are standing in front of the door to the great hall and I was totally unprepared for what happened next. When the movie finished the screen rolled up to reveal the actual door to the great hall!!! I am a super emotional and sentimental person and I started happy-crying. I just thought it was so magical that you start your journey by going through that door just like they did.

professorsThe great hall was awesome, with bits and bobs for each house and the teachers costumes displayed at the front of the hall. It was really weird to look up and just see the studio ceiling instead of the magical, changing ceiling you see in the movies. We obviously had to take a selfie in the Mirror of Erised. I suppose what my hear truly desires is friendship.

IMG_20150321_181225226The huge swinging pendulum clock was petty impressive. I could have stood there for days, calmly mesmerized by its motion. I call this “Selfie with my bestie!”. I love the fat lady so just had to scoop up this chance. interesting fact- Dawn French, who plays the fat lady in Prisoner of Azkaban is going to be sworn in as the Chancellor of Falmouth University on Thursday, pretty rad!

Dumbledores office

Dumbledore’s office was incredible. So many little details that you don’t notice when you watch the movie. I mean all of the portraits are hand painted, imagine how long that must have taken! There are so many shiny, wonderful bits and bobs in cabinets all around, it really was a work of art to behold. There’s even a little window at the back that you can look through and see the little lounge bit right at the back. Even though it’s very background in the movies it’s still there and still looks stunning. Although you didn’t get to enter the office through the amazing statue/door we still got to pose in front of it. Selfie in potions class. The potions class room was really awesome with lots of cauldrons filled with steaming green potions with enchanted spoons magically stirring them.It was so cool to be next to such detailed and pretty large props. Sadly none of us can speak parseltounge so we couldn’t access the Chamber of Secrets.Yes, Umbridge is a mega-bitch but she does have great taste in colours and cat plates! I will take 10 please! We were lucky enough to be some of the first people to experience the new Hogwarts Express exhibition. I was majorly excited to have my picture taken running through the wall at Platform 9 3/4. So fun and so silly.

trainStanding next to the actual Hogwarts express with horns and smoke just felt unreal. It felt like we really were just about to board a train and go onwards to our magical education. The train was pretty cramped when we got inside but it was pretty cool. Each carriage represents a different movie, with little props hinting at each one. My favourite part was right at the end when to my delight a glimpsed the Honeydukes trolley and couldn’t help but say “Anything off the trolley dears?”.

IMG_20150321_193509118_HDRThere was even little fake booths you could sit in which simulated the ride to Hogwarts including escaping chocolate frogs and dementors attacking! It was pretty cool and make a perfect photo opportunity.

I will leave this post here as after this we sat down in the cafe and had a spot of tea. I will be posting part 2 soon so keep your eyes peeled.

Self Portrait- a poem

Last week in my creative writing class we were asked to write a “self portrait” poem. I really enjoyed writing it, so much so that I was late meeting my Mum because I was on a writing roll. Anyway, I thought I would share it with you all. It may seem a little narcissistic to write a poem about yourself but if you think of it so is a selfie and as I mentioned here they rock! Talking of which time to include a selfie to accompany this poem.

Self Portrait

She always wakes with messy hair, no matter what. It’s kind of a sign that nothing she can do can make her life tidy, make it make sense. Every brush stroke in the mirror always pulls out hairs. Some fall to the floor. Leaving her mark. You always know if she’s been over, little bright strands marking the carpet. They make him smile, it’s like she never had to leave. Despite this morning chaos she always pulls it out the bag. Ready with a smile and some garish patterns on her back. Gets dressed in the dark, yet somehow it works. Chipped nail-varnish adding to the ensemble. Always in flats never heels. “What if I want to run down a grassy hill?” She always says. You can see her point. Hooking up her skirt, off on a mini adventure. Probably seen a flower again that she simply must instagram. Comes back all muddy, in awe of the natural wonders. A seagull squawks by                                                                                                                                                               Always late, looking like a whirl of colour, never wanting to leave.

So there it is, my poetic self portrait. I got some great feedback in class which is always uplifting as well as a little advice which I have acted on and edited the poem slightly. I would love to know what you think so feel free to leave me a comment.

Things I Love Thursday

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done one of these so be prepared for an overload of gratitude from the time I missed!

FotorCreated

❤ House Christmas! A bit late I know but we had our house Christmas at the end of Janurary. Sonera cooked us a delicious vegan roast and we exchanged presents and watched funny youtube videos late into the night. I don’t say it enough but I freaking love my house mates. A year ago when we decided to live together we made such a great choice. (Polariod photos taken by the wonderful Sherrie on her new camera.)

❤ My amazeballs boyfriend Oli brought me a Download Festival ticket as a super early birthday present. I am so happy, grateful and excited! I’m actually going to get to see Marilyn Manson! June is going to be awesome.

❤ On point outfit colour coordination.

foodandskulls

❤ Tidying my desk and organising some of my nick-nacks. A girl can never have too many glittery skulls.

❤ The sorbet in Zizzs is amazing. I had a scoop of each strawberry, lemon and pomegranate and they were all divine. 10/10, would recommend.

❤ My current favourite cocktail- a passion fruit daiquiri from Shed in Falmouth.

❤ Just the fact that I own a huge ampersand thingy. How random and fun. Also I just have so many odd little bits and bobs that make me smile every time I look at them.

❤ Beautiful packaging. I ordered one of these necklaces (I went for D) from Bonbi Forest and it came wrapped in this intricate origami wonderfulness. It was just so unexpected and special and it really added to the whole buying experience. I love Bonbi Forest and the necklace is perfect, I’ve been wearing it almost every day since it arrived.

❤ Madame Moxie’s Masquerade, what a night! Everyone came dressed in awesome fashions: Victorian, Steampunk, Burlesque, and partied the night away. There was cabaret acts, burlesque dancing and a pirate playing industrial sea shanties on a Victorian hurdy gurdy! It was a bizarre and unforgettable evening.

cornishbeauty

❤ How beautiful Falmouth is. These were all taken on different days at different times but they are all so beautiful. I love Falmouth so much. Just going on a walk along the seafront on a sunny day makes me feel like I am on holiday. I never want to leave this little haven.

❤ My wee trip to London with Oli to see his Dad and Grandma. You can read more about the trip here.

bodyconfidence

❤ Having some major body confidence. My body is awesome and I love it. It gets me from A to B and lets me have load of fun! I can swim, cycle, dance, run, skip- #thisgirlcan! I’m working on making it stronger and healthier but love it now and always will.

❤ Beth and her friend Caitlin coming down from Exeter to visit. We has some lunch in town before heading of on a seaside adventure. The weather was lovely and we ended the day with massive ice creams from Swanpool beach cafe. It was great to meet Caitlin and I’m going up to Exeter to see them and celebrate Beth’s birthday in a few weeks, woo!

❤ Mini shopping sprees. Today I went into town and got a few bits. I went for Barry M nail polishes in Berry and Strawberry along with eye shadows in Copper and Gold. The unicorn stickers were from a local discount store and the other bits and bobs were all from Barnardos charity shop including the flowery top I used as a backdrop. I had a fab day today hanging out in town with some uni friends.

Hows that for a lot of awesome gratitude! Join me next week for even more.

Time For Change

Time for the truth. Since starting uni back in 2013 I have put on rather a lot of weight. This wouldn’t really be a problem if it wasn’t for the fact that now most of my beautiful summer dresses don’t fit. I love my dresses. I built up an enviable collection while working in a lovely shop which sold Emily and Finn dresses. They make me feel so pretty and happy and well, like myself so the not fitting is a bit of a big deal. So it’s time to make a change!

I have a pretty big goal- I want to loose 3 stone. That may seem like a lot but if I loose that then I will be back to the weight I was before I started uni. Time for more honesty- I’m shit at diets. If I tell myself “no, you can’t have that” then you can guarantee that’s all I’m going to want to eat. So I’m not going on a diet in the traditional sense, I’m just going to eat what I like just in smaller portions and a lot less of my one true food evil- cheese! I’m also going to make an effort to eat more fruit and veg because they are super yummy, a great snack to fill a gap and healthy.

On top of the better eating I’m actually going to move my arse and get exercising. I stumbled upon the Couch to 5k plan on the NHS website and knew it was for me. In an ideal world I would hire a personal trainer to kick me into shape. I need someone motivating every step of the way so the way the plan works is perfect. Each week you download a podcast to listen to while you run. The podcast guides you through a running work out with sections of walking and sections of running. The aim is to run 3 times a week.  Each week you run for longer amounts of time until eventually you can run 5k non-stop. So far I’ve run twice and I can already feel it getting easier. I’m so excited to progress through the weeks and I will keep you up to date as to how it’s going. I also went for a swim today for the first time in ages. I’d forgotten just how fun it is!

So that’s my aim! I thought if I shared it with you guys on here then I would have some added motivation. Hopefully I will manage to get to my goal weight by the week of Download Festival in mid June. Wish me luck!

Things I love Friday- Getting Back On Track

Oooops, it’s Friday again and I still haven’t done my gratitude list! I have my reasons though, mainly a mixture of seeing friends and flipping deadlines. Anyway, here I am so here we go.

❤ Hanging out with my friends from home. It’s so sad that they are all slowly trickling back to uni not but I know they will be back soon enough.

❤ On a similar thread; seeing my friends from uni again. It’s weird how you become so close to people at uni so quickly then they suddenly disappear for a month.

❤ Sharing my New Year Promises with the world. Now they are out there and not just in my head they feel real and doable.

❤ The masses of rainbow things I lug around with me on a daily basis.

❤ The woman who was rapping in the toilets at spoons the other day! She was pretty good!

❤ Getting into a good skincare routine again, my skin is already reaping the benefits.

❤ Getting some sun the other day. It was still pretty darn cold but the sunshine really cheered me up.

❤ Finishing my creative writing assignment, woo! I still need to edit it but I super happy with how it has developed. I might share it with you once it has been marked.

❤ Mine and Oli’s new tradition of fist bumping each other at just gone midnight to congratulate each other for getting through another day. We’ve done it every day this year so far and intend to keep it up. It’s a really nice little positive ritual.

❤ Getting my hands on the first issue of Rock N Roll Bride!!! Kat has done an amazing job, it is absolutely beautiful and I cannot wait to read it properly. I mean I’m not even engaged I just love looking at all the amazing weddings and taking inspiration. (Also how “instagram” is this photo I took?!)

❤ Buying awesome random crap in the Janurary sales. Yesterday I picked up a big ampersand model in tribute to the Amanda Palmer song “Ampersand”. How odd and cool is that?

❤ Feeling super positive about the year ahead.

❤ This roasted veg and humus sandwich from Shed yesterday. It was so freaking delicious. I even ate the side salad which is unheard of for me.

❤ Smoothies, I need to make more because I have been craving them so much lately. So far I’ve had two this week.

❤ Wearing new clothes, it always feels really nice and fresh.

So that’s been my week. Hopefully I will pull myself together and actually post this on Thursday next week, with a few before then of course. Until then I bid you farewell.
