Rad In August

Holy fuck it’s September already! Having said that I feel like August lasted forever which has got to be a good thing cause I had a lot of fun this past month. I liked it so much that I’m gonna bring back my monthly favourite list! This is gonna be things I’ve been loving including shows, music, articles, random crap, just anything really. Hell let’s just be honest here, I’m totally making this up as I go along. Sorry if this post doesn’t read amazingly, I’m having a 90’s dance party while writing and my mind tends to wander when I listen to music.

Bullet Journaling

Bullet journaling has been something I’ve been aware of for a while now but for some reason in August I decided to take the plunge and start my own. I started with the basic model ideas from the Bullet Journal site then got creative from there. It’s really helped me organise my life and goals. Because it’s all in a plain notebook and you organise it as you go it means it’s super flexible allowing for anything to be added. I might write a whole post about my experiences with bullet journaling in a few months when I’ve had a bit more time to refine my personal style.

Typography Apps

My two favourites are Font Candy and Typorama. Both are free to download and use but you can pay a few quid to get access to more fonts and other fun things. It’s just such a fun way to spruce up your instagram photos. The 4 above examples are all my own photos edited in the app to create awesome images.

This strawberry baked oatmeal recipe.

I made it once and it was so yummy and filling. I think it will be great for when I go back to uni. I can make some up on Sunday night then just grab a slice before a leave for the bus throughout the week.

Youtube

I have been so in love with 3 youtubers in the month of August. Deligracy  is an awesome Sim’s gamer who mostly posts house builds and lets plays of The Sims 4. I just finished binge watching her 6o part “Twins” let’s play. So much drama and story development! I got so invested in the characters and the storyline, that girl has talent! Annie Elainey  is so open and honest and I just love watching her videos. She vlogs about her life, chronic illness, social justice, movies, hair and much much more. Annie has also inspired me to start adding captions to all my videos to make them more accessible. Stef Sanjati is a Toronto based makeup artist who has bags and bags of personality and style. She posts makeup tutorials and challenges along with regular Q&As and updates on her personal experiences transitioning. Stef has such an infectious personality and her smile just makes me melt!

Music

This 90s Party Playist is my jam right now. I am raving to it right now and keep getting distracted by the tunes. This feel good playlist my Mum put together. Clearly this playlist shows where I get my fabulous music taste from. This playlist is the perfect mix of modern hits and classics creating a perfect happy summer vibe. I am also really digging the Suicide Squad soundtrack album, so many great songs in a neat package. If I have this playing through my headphones while I walk somewhere I instantly feel like a total badass and start subconsciously strutting my stuff.

This interview with Laverne Cox about the Rocky Horror remake

As a die-hard fan of the original I was somewhat sceptical about the modern remake but this has put all my fears to rest and I now can’t wait to watch it!

Yaaaasss! Destroying the mentality of being “not like other girls”

This post just gives me life. Being a girl isn’t a competition. We need to stand by our sisters and support each other.

And finally these two totally unrelated videos that just make me smile so much

And that’s that! I hope you all enjoy my recommendations, let me know in the comments.

The Glitterati 2 Year Anniversary Unboxing!

13873040_10154521558727590_6822706302665573746_n

I have spoken about the Glitterati multiple times on this blog so hopefully you will know all about it by now. If not here’s a quick explanation- the Glitterati is a monthly subscription box in which you get at least £50 worth of awesome hair accessories. You also get access to an exclusive and super fun facebook page where you can chat and hang out with the other glitterati gals as well as a special gift on your birthday. So yeah, basically it’s fucking rad as balls! To find out more click here, and if you do decide to sign up quote my name (Emma Robinson) when signing up and we will each get a voucher to spend on the Crown and Glory site!

Anyway, August 2016 marks the 2 year anniversary of the Glitterati! 2 years of amazing glitter filled fun! I have been a member since September 2014 so nearly the whole time. I’ve had so much fun receiving my box each month and planning how I’m going to wear all the fabulous pieces. The facebook group has really been the cherry on top of the mega pie that is the Glitterati. So many amazing women all in one place sharing selfies, achievements, plans, worries, pet photos, the list goes on. It has become so much more than just a subscription box. I have had the pleasure of going to five different Glitterati meet ups now. Each one has been so much fun! I’ve made so many friends and taken so many selfies. Seriously, this group has been life changing and given me so much confidence so thank you so much to Sophie and Gareth for bring us all together and of course to the amazing souls who make the Glitterati what it is- a family.

On to the unboxing! I’m really getting into filming videos for youtube lately so I decided to film an unboxing video. I had so much fun filming it… not so much fun cleaning up… you will see what I mean if you watch the video below!

Happy Birthday to the Glitterati! Here’s to another year of awesomeness.

If you enjoyed the video please subscribe to my youtube channel to see what I get up to next. Feel free to comment on this post or on the video to let me know what you think.

My Trip to London!

So as you will know if you read my last blog post I went to London about a week ago. My main reason for going was the Glitterati party however I decided to make a weekend of it with my friend Saskia who lives in London.

I was super nervous about travelling up on my own. The furtherest I’d ever been alone before was Exeter and that was all by train. This was a 6 hour coach journey from Plymouth all on my lonesome. I made sure to get some Rescue Remedy pastels after one of the Glitterati girls recommended them and packed my ipod and a good book to tide me over. The journey was actually much better and easier than I expected it to be. Everything ran to schedule until we hit central London, which is kinda to be expected, and I got a lot of reading done. Saskia met me at the station and all was good. We took a tube back to hers and had a good catch up over Dominos pizza.

We had a few places we wanted to visit on the Saturday before I went to the party and the first one was Cuppa Cha in China Town. Saskia had been going on about bubble tea for ages and I was super keen to try some but when we got there it was sadly shut. Undeterred we decided to pop along to the new 3 storey Lush on Oxford Street and come back later.

Oxford Street Lush is freaking amazing! It’s so massive and colourful and just heavenly for a girl like me. We spent a good hour wandering around the floors just looking and smelling before I even put anything in my basket. What I found super cool and odd is how each floor smelt totally different. On the top floor, where all the bath bombs are, I was tasked with finding my sister one of the 200 exclusive products that she would like. After some fun demonstrations I went with the Frozen bath bomb and an “I am a radiant being” bath oil. On the middle floor I had my arm ex-foliated with this awesome soap-powder stuff. It’s kinda like washing powder but for your skin. It made my arm super soft. We then went down to the relaxing bottom floor and both had an arm massage. So calming after the rush upstairs. I was pretty reserved and only bought myself 3 things. (At the end of this post I will include a haul video so you can see everything I bought whilst away.)

After all that Lush intensity we decided it was time to go back to Cuppa Cha then get some lunch. The bubble tea was amazing! I went for a mango tea with strawberry popping pearls and it was both refreshing and fun to drink. It’s a pretty weird sensation having the tiny bubbles pop in your mouth, releasing extra favours, but it was so fun and I bought 2 more bubble teas from another place while I was away. We then went to Yo Sushi for lunch which was pretty nostalgic for us because we ate in the same place we went to almost 4 years ago! I successfully managed to eat my whole meal, including noodles, with chopsticks which is a serious achievement for me. We then went to Topshop for a browse but only bough one thing before heading off to Kensington for the party. We promptly got lost but were eventually saved by an army of glittery angels but you can read more about that here.

I caught the tube back to Waterloo from Kensington with a little help from the wonderful Glitterati member Amber. She made sure I got on the right train and told me where to change for which I am forever grateful. I usually get panicky trying to plan things and figure out where I’m going but once I am on my way I’m fine. Saskia met me from the station again and we went back to hers and spent the rest of the night watching Eurovision and getting way too into it! I love watching Eurovision with friends, you never really know what to expect.

On the Sunday the plan was to go the the East End Thrift Store however due to a bus replacement we got kinda lost and confused in Whitechapel and ended up going for a cheeky Nando’s instead. It was surprisingly yummy and I can confirm much banter occurred and we did see some “lads”. As we had some time left after our cheeky detour we decided to pop back over to Topshop so I could get something else and we could just have a bit more of a browse. Saskia ended up getting the most amazing varsity-type jacket with “Girl Gang” embroidered across the back. So cute and so perfectly her.

H&M ended up being out final shopping destination and I was somewhat overwhelmed by just how many floors there were! You could so easily get lost in there! I picked up a bunch of things to try on but before I got to the changing room I noticed a photobooth. I never like to pass up a good photobooth moment so of course I was digging around in my wallet straight away. We put the money in and looked at the screen expecting instructions but before we could even sit down the flash went off and the first photo was snapped! We managed to sit down and somewhat compose ourselves for the second shot but I love the above result! It’s very silly and us.

That night we chilled out eating cookies and doing facemasks, embracing the sleepover vibe. We also had a rather hilarious suncream related incident where everything in my bag ended up covered in it! It was one of those disastrous times when just when you think you’ve got everything sorted more goes wrong and more mess is caused. I don’t think I’ve laughed that hard for a long time though!

On the Monday I had to go home, boo hoo. We of course took a goodbye selfie before heading back to the coach station. I bought the biggest doughnut I have ever seen from a vendor near Victoria coach station. It was almost the size of my head and boy was it delicious. Om nom nom indeed! At the station I had the pleasure of encountering a super happy, bubbly bathroom attendant. She really brightened up my sad, going home day. I got back to Plymouth ahead of schedule which was awesome and my Dad met me and took me back home to Falmouth. I had an amazing trip and after travelling up on my own I feel like I can do anything!

I filmed a wee haul video showing all the things I bought in London if you are interested. If you like the video remember to give it a thumbs up and maybe even subscribe.

A Playlist- Fuck the Patriarchy

I love music, I listen to it all the time. Popping to the shop- headphones on. Getting ready for the day- tunes blaring from my laptop. Doing uni work- yep more music. I also love making playlists with different themes depending on my mood. So I decided to make a new semi regular series on the blog where I share these playlists with you! They will either be on Spotify or Youtube depending on track availability. I’m also going to make cute little graphics for each playlist so you can go and create it however you want without having to visit either of those websites.

The first playlist I have decided to share with you wonderful people is the girl-power inspired “Fuck the Patriarchy”. It is a shortened version of a Spotify playlist that I listen to a lot when I am getting ready to go out into the world. It fills me with energy and confidence. It’s full of fabulous hits by kick-arse women but is no means a definitive list and I am constantly adding to it. This shortened list is full of my personal faves. I decided to make it on Youtube so I could include some Taylor Swift.

Fuck The Patriarchy Playlist

Link to the Youtube playlist.

I have also included the full playlist which is in no real order so you might want to listen to it on shuffle to avoid getting loads of songs by the same artist or that don’t go together.

I hope you like this new idea I had! Let me know in the comments if you did. Also I’m always looking for more great music so please comment if you have any new suggestions of songs or artists I might enjoy.

Sisterly Shopping Spree- Vlog

Me and my sister Jenny hopped on a train to our nearest big city, Plymouth, for a day of shopping and shenanigans. The aim was to have a look around the sales but honestly most of the stuff we got was full price. Jenny vlogged the day and I wanted to share it with you guys;

Yes, I didn’t realise that a station was called a station because you are stationary there. Why am I studying English at university?! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed that sneak peek into our lives. Make sure you check out and subscribe to Jenny’s Youtube channel. She’s working on posting more regularly this year so expect awesome things. We filmed a haul video when we got home and that should be up later this week so I will make sure I share it on here.

Falmouth Gets Festive

Want to know what I was up to last Thursday? Well conventionally my sister vlogged our trip to town to see the Christmas lights switch on!

The lights really do look lovely, I might make it out into town some time next week and take some photos to share with you. If you enjoyed Jenny’s video then please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to her channel, she makes some great videos and sometimes I feature making them even better!

Internetty Bits and Bobs

Sorry this is a wee bit late guys! I have been a busy bee so haven’t had a chance to sit down and compile this list. But yay, I now have the time so I hope you find something you enjoy as much as I did.

❤ Spending forever creating the perfect family and house on the Sims used to be one of my favourite ways to waste a day. I dread to think how long this superfan spent recreating these sets from Friends

❤ As you will know by now I am a massive Crown and Glory fan. Earlier this month Rock n Roll Bride once again collaborated with them to bring out the Bridesmaid Collection. There are some lovely pieces in there- my fave has to be either the pink Liberace ears or the Liberace hearts.

❤ I love a good science joke.

Chihuahua+bubbles=adorable!

❤ Ever wondered what Single Ladies would sound like as a dramatic monologue? Well wonder no more.

❤ One for the Harry Potter fans.

❤ This song speaks to me on a spiritual level.

❤ These guys take popular songs and make them a million times more awesome. This is my particular favourite.

I hope you enjoyed the bits I have rounded up this month. Now to start collecting again…

October Glitterati Unboxing!

After waiting patiently for a few days my Glitterati box arrived on Saturday! I was so excited to see what was inside because I knew it had a bit of a Halloween theme and it’s no secret that I freaking love Halloween. I will admit I had a sneaky peek at some people’s photos on Facebook so I had a bit of an idea of what I would be getting but it was still a wonderful surprise to see what was in my box.

I also ordered myself a little treat which I got delivered with my box. So here is my unboxing video:

I know it’s a little bit all over the place but I tried! Hopefully next month I will be a wee bit more prepared.

Links to the products available online:

The Glitterati

Mermaid Huge Glitter Bow (this usually comes on a stretchy elastic hair band but if you would prefer it on a metal band like mine just add a note at the checkout and you can have it done at no extra charge)

Glitter Devil Horns Headband

Glitter Bat Clips (these are just black ones)

Feather Bobby Pins

Ebony Lotta Rosie Headband (I called it the Whole Lotta Rosie in the video which is also on the website but is a wee bit bigger than the Lotta Rosie)

I love my box so much and am already itching to see what’s in store for next month. I think my favourite piece from this months box has to be the Lotta Rosie Headband. I have wanted one of these for ages and am so happy I got the black one. It will work with so many different looks and it hides my terrible roots beautifully! Thank you so much Sophie for being such a babe and thank you to the lovely Glitterati girls for always being fab.
